Summer Arts and Media Camp FAQ

Where does drop off and pick up take place?
Pick up and drop off is at the Columbia College building at 623 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago, IL. Our campers will be using several rooms throughout the first floor of the building, so just come on in the building through the main entrance and there should be a counselor or security guard there ready to sign in your child.

Please be aware that there is no parking lot for that building, and that street parking can be challenging in the area. There is a 15-minute loading zone in front of the building that you are welcome to use for drop off, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be open and available for you when you arrive. We will also do our best to always have a counselor outside during morning drop off for curbside sign in.

Do you provide lunch?
Summer Arts and Media Camp does not provide lunch. Students must bring a lunch from home that does not require refrigeration or heating.

Do you accept friend requests for groups?
No, sorry. We cannot honor requests for specific campers to be placed in the same camp cohorts with their friends.

Do you offer extended care?
Yes, for an additional fee of $400 per session, extended care is available until 6pm. In order to enroll, you must first register your child for the camp and then simply add the additional extended care activity option to your shopping cart. If you are registering by phone or in person, just let the Student Services Specialist know that you need to add the extended care option.

I also have a child enrolled in one of the Summer Intensives. Do I have to drop-off and pick-up my children from separate locations?
It is likely that Intensive classes will not be in the same building as the Summer Arts and Media Camp, and parents will be responsible for dropping off and picking up students at the respective Camp & Intensive locations. However, if your children are enrolled in the extended care option, a staff member will be available to escort students enrolled in the Summer Intensive program to the Summer Arts and Media Camp location at the conclusion of the day for convenient, single location pick-up for both kids.

Will students be creating a final project?
Each Intensive is designed for every student to create a culminating project either independently or in collaboration with other students. Work created during the program will be displayed on the final Friday of each week and available to take home that same day. Digital projects will be accessible for download online when appropriate.

Do you offer extended care?
Yes, for an additional fee of $100 per intensive. Extended care is available until 6pm but will convene in the same location as Summer Arts and Media Camp extended care. A staff member will escort students to the site each day. In order to enroll, you must first register your student for the desired intensives and then simply add the additional after-camp care activity option to your shopping cart. If you are registering by phone or in person, just let the Student Services Specialist know that you need to add the extended care option.

Safety & Security FAQ

How do you collect emergency medical and contact information?
We partner with the ePACT Network to collect comprehensive medical and emergency contact information from all our camp participants, as well as to collect sign offs on camp waivers from parents. ePACT is a free, secure, and HIPAA compliant online system, that all our campers are REQUIRED to enroll in before attending camp. Through ePACT, all our camp counselors have access to our camper's emergency information via a smartphone app throughout the duration of the camp, so no matter where we are, we can ensure that we have immediate access to all your child's vital information through a completely secure and private system. Invitations to join the ePACT Network will be sent out to all registrants several weeks prior to the start of each session.

Will campers have any unsupervised time during the day?
No, absolutely not. All campers will be accompanied and supervised by one or more camp counselors at all times throughout the course of the day.

What is the screening process for any adults that will have contact with my child during the course of the program?
All employees of the Office of Continuing and Community Education at Columbia College Chicago have completed and passed a full background check and fingerprinting. This includes all full-time and part-time staff and faculty, teaching artists, substitute teachers, student workers, camp counselors, and residence assistants

I have other questions about safety and security.
We will post a copy of our official Policy on Minors soon, please check back later for more information.

Registration FAQ

Why is Session 1 of the Arts and Media Camp slightly cheaper than Session 2?
Session 1 is pro-rated to reflect the Independence Day holiday.

When can I register?
Registration opens Tuesday December 19, 2017. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, and registration will close when a session is full, or one week before the start of each session, whichever comes first.

How do I enroll my child in extended care?
There is a seperate activity option on our online registration site for extended care. After you register your child for your preferred session(s), simply add the additional extended care activity option(s) to your shopping cart. If you are registering by phone or in person, just let the Student Services Specialist know that you need to add the extended care option.

Are there discounts available?
We offer a $200 discount to campers who register for both Session 1 and Session 2 of the Arts and Media Camp, and we offer a $100 discount to students who register for more than one Intensive. The first Intensive will be the regular price, and all subsequent Intensives will have a $100 discount. Registrations must occur at the same time and on the same receipt in order for the discounts to be automatically applied.

How much do I have to pay when I register?
It depends on the program. A $500 deposit is required for the Arts and Media Camp, and a $250 deposit is required for each Summer Intensive. The deposit is required per camper, per session, at the time of registration. You may also opt to pay in full at the time of registration if you prefer. If you do not pay in full, we require a credit or debit card be kept on file which we will charge automatically on future payment due dates.

How and when do I pay the remaining balance?
It depends on the program:

Arts and Media Camp: We will automatically charge your credit or debit card for 50% of the balance due on May 5, 2018, then again on June 5, 2018 for the remaining 50% balance. Registrations that occur after the final payment date of June 5, 2018 will require payment in full at the time of registration.
Summer Intensives: We will automatically charge your credit or debit card the full balance due 3 weeks prior to the start of each week of the Summer Intensive program. Registrations that occur after the final payment date of each respective Summer Intensive will require payment in full at the time of registration.

What happens if registration fills up?
You may opt to place your child on a waiting list via our registration system in the event that registration is full. If a student withdraws from the camp, the next person on the waiting list will be notified and given the opportunity to register.

Do you offer financial aid?
Yes! Please download and read the following document to understand and apply for financial aid. We ask that financial aid applications be submitted by April 20, 2018. Late applications will be accepted, but availability of financial aid funds after the deadline are not guaranteed.
