The Summer Arts and Media Camp at Columbia College Chicago is a unique full-day urban camp program for young creatives. Featuring experienced teachers and counselors, small class-sizes, guest workshops, and access to Columbia’s state-of-the-art facilities in the South Loop, the Summer Arts and Media Camp introduces campers to a wide variety of artistic disciplines.

The camp is open to elementary school students ages 6 - 12, entering grades 1st through 6th in the fall of 2018. Students of all experience levels in the arts are welcome - all that's needed is an openness to trying new things and a willingness to participate in new artistic fields. Student entering 7th grade or older are eligible for the Summer Intensives programs which align with the Summer Arts and Media Camp dates and times. Please visit the Summer Intensives page for more information.

Camp Structure

Students will be divided into groups based on grade levels to ensure classes and activities are appropriately customized. Each group will be assigned one to two counselors who will join them throughout the duration of the day, including class and recreation time. Groups will rotate between classes and have the opportunity to work with all teaching artists every day. Teaching artists are experienced in their respective disciplines and will work closely with counselors to tailor activities to each group.

Both sessions are designed to balance between stationary and movement-based arts activities to keep students engaged and attentive. This, coupled with extended play time at lunch, ensures students will exercise their physical as well as creative energies. All campers will be together for kick-off, lunch, and end of day activities.
